I am a new user of OpenFOAM but very familiar with CFD for settling problems. I have written my own 2D Fortran code for this problem solving the flow field using a Patankar scheme with a k-epsilon turbulence model. The solids settling and transport in this code are handled using a two-way (density-coupled) scalar transport equation, rather than a two-fluid approach. I am trying to develop some understanding of the settlingFoam tutorial. I have been able to run both the 2D and 3D versions of this and view the results in paraView. I don't see any indication of solids concentrations in the paraView displays. My understanding was that this code was "multi-phase". All I see in the paraView parameters is velocity, no solids. I would love to communicate with someone who is expert in this code, preferably the developer. Please reply here if you can help.

Hi Randal.

Did you see the Daniel Brennan's thesis? Is not difficult to found.
Look chapters 6.4 (Dahl) and 7 (tank3D). I think alfa is fraction of solids.

Greetings.

Posso,

Thanks so much. Yes, I had seen Brennan's thesis. It doesn't say a word about OpenFOAM. I have finally figured out how to display solids as "alpha" in ParaView. Little steps for little feet.

Regards,

Randal

Good morning Randal,

The code was still called FOAM back then, and that name is mentioned in the acknowledgement.

Good luck,

Niels

Niels,

You are quite right, and "settlingFoam" is mentioned (once) in the text. Thanks.
