Hi,
I have read few days ago some posts on salome, as a preprocessor (geometry, mesh generation). Does Salome exports geometry, and/or mesh in one of OpenFOAM formats ? Best regards, Frédéric |

Can Salome output unv files? I read something about a unvToFoam script posted here.

Mattijs, Salome can write (I-DEAS) .unv files. We have tested some simple geometries (created whithin Salome, so) and meshed those. STAR can import those meshes including shells whithout problems. Did not try it yet in OpenFOAM (have it on suse 10.0, but cannot make salome running on it, probably have to try a bit harder)

Sergei,
I was also playing around with Salome and had no problem imported unv files that I've converted from Foam with the foamMeshToUnv.tar.gz conversion utility. If, however, I wish to create a group (for tagging boundary conditions), I can only select nodes or elements, but not the faces of elements (which I would require for Foam). Is this possible in Salome? Thanks, /mark |

Mark,
I have to honest, we didn't put much effort into Salome yet (because I could run it on SuSE only from version 10.1). Basically, what we are doing, importing "raw" meshes (from different packages, even from ICEM) into STAR-CD, and then finishing the model in it. OpenFOAM (we are using it only for some special cases, because of speed) has excelent convertor for it, so why bother. Anyway, I am going to look in more details at Salome, and will come back with answer to your question |

I played a little bit with SALOME and I it exports UNV (I-deas). In this thread you can see I attempted to build a converter. It has several limitations because UNV format is quite extense.

Hi,
The developer of CAELinux LiveDVD developed a python code to convert unv file to OpenFOAM (I guess it is OpenFOAM 1.2) format. I have not tried this python code myself yet. I was not able to install Salmoe v3.2.1 on a SuSE 10.1 64 bit OS. It was pretty easy to install Salome v3.2.1 on Mandriva 2006 (32 bit). But, the easiest is to use the CAELinux LiveDVD. I guess that the BC info can be obtained through using "groups" in unv. pei |
