I'm new to OpenFoam, so forgive me is this is an obvious question. On several cases I've been running, FoamX complains that it cannot find the application that appears in the ControlDict file. As a result it does not allow me to open the case. An example is the 'aachenBomb' case in the dieselFoam tutorial, where the following error message appears as soon as I click on the case:
"The OpenCase operation failed due to getApplication::Invalid application class name dieselFoam" Now, the dieselFoam application obviously exists. I had a similar problem with the reactingFoam application. I know there has to be a configuration file somewhere, but I cannot find it. The user guide is not helpful either. Thanks. |

Some applications were never set up in FoamX.
Check the original application directory (in the solvers directory) for a FoamX directory with .cfg files. |

Mattijs,
If by original directory you mean $HOME/OpenFoam/OpenFoam-1.2/applications I couldn't find any FoamX directory there. The closest is the directory .../applications/utilities/preProcessing/FoamX but I didn't find any .cfg file there. The only other place where I could find .cfg files is $HOME/OpenFoam/OpenFoam-1.2/.OpenFoam-1.2/apps/FoamX where there is a whole bunch of .cfg files. I looked inside the ones that seemed more obvious, but couldn't find any list of solvers. Could you be a bit more specific about the directory and file I should be looking for? Thank you for your help. Carlos |

Every FoamX configuration setup is bundled with the solver. E.g. for icoFoam the source directory ($FOAM_SOLVERS/incompressible/icoFoam/) has a FoamX subdirectory with all the solver specific configuration.
My guess is that those two solvers you mentioned were never setup in FoamX. |

Hi, Mattijs,
If we setup our own application directry outside of $FOAM_SOLVERS, FoamX doesn't search *.cfg in such a directry. Is it true ? I don't prefer to put customized solver under $FOAM_SOLVERS. How to solve this ? Masato |

It also scans $WM_PROJECT_USER_DIR/applications/solvers and $WM_PROJECT_USER_DIR/applications/utilities.
so you can put your specialized solvers in there. |

Hi, Mattijs,
Is there any userguide for OpenFOAM without GUI (like FoamX) or which does not use GUI? |
