Hi,

I am setting up a turbulent pipe flow simulation using LES with the WALE SGS model. I would like to set the inlet velocity profile as a 1/7th power law and have come across the applyBoundaryLayer utility.

I have searched the tutorials and this forum and there do not seem to be any examples illustrating the functionality of applyBoundaryLayer.

I currently run blockMesh followed by applyBoundaryLayer -ybl <value>. However this does not seem to be making any changes to the inlet velocity profile.
The applyBoundaryLayer utiility also requires the specification of a wallDist which I have included at the end of the fvSchemes dictionary. I am using meshWave. Am I missing something here?

Alternatively, is the only other way to specify an inlet velocity profile 1/7th power law by using groovyBC/swak4Foam?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have made same progress with this. The issue was that the internalField was set to (0 0 0) which was a rookie mistake as applyBoundaryLayer is based on the values of the internalField.

However, I am now struggling to understand why the value of velocity does not go to zero at the walls, as one would expect. Can some provide an explanation for this?
