Specifying inlet and outlet on an existing geometry

Hi all,

I've downloaded an existing stl file from the internet which is a distillation column. Now I want to specify inlet and outlet patches. However, the inlet and outlet pipes are hollow. My question is do I need to make the entrance of those cylindrical pipes filled as a surface? Please see the attached photos below:

You need not only "fill" the entrances but the volumen of the distiller. As I can see the stl file is the one of the container. You need a file of the interior volume. The container itself may be represented by a boundary condition (perhaps, depends on your question).

Thank you so much for your reply. I decided to give up working on that file and learn FreeCad to draw the geometry myself.
