Hi all,

I have a problem with my mesh. The case description is this: 2D tower stl file, hot plate underneath - defined within snappy like the igloowithfridges example and temperatures for each patch given within T file in 0 directory.
When refining the mesh I'm using surface refinement and distance refinement region.
The problem: temperature is 'jumping' from the hotplate all the way across the refined cells before influencing the outer domain. Check out the screenshot here to get an idea http://i.imgur.com/gfKpb.png

If any one has any clues I'd be really grateful.

Here's my snappyHexMeshDict:

JR22 will become famous soon enough
Did you find the solution? Thanks.

Hi, it's been a long time since I've done any CFD but I think I remember that I sorted this problem because snappyHexMesh is a 3D meshing tool, so despite have an initial 2D mesh snappy will create cells in the third domain (can see them if you zoom in really close on the thin edge of your mesh). So this messes up a lot of things when running 2D simulations.

It wasn't really clear when reading into snappy that it did this, however the solution is relatively simple - use a tool called extrudeMesh to extrude a mesh 1 cell thick from the refined mesh and delete all other cells.

I hope that's sorted it if anyone else is having the same problem!
