I'm trying to use Gmsh construct a simple geometry consisting of a large cylinder with a few pipes entering and exiting the curved surface of the cylinder. This is very simple to do using Gambit but Does gmsh have a way to make points or draw circles etc on the curved surface of the cylinder. It also seems to lack tha ability to split volumes or too calculate the intersections of volumes.

I'm sorry that I can't help you there. However, I'm also interested in the solution for this kind of problem as I had the same situation some months ago...

I finally used netgen but it'd be still nice to know how I could have done this with gmsh...

So if you find an answer I'd appreciate if you post it here...
