Hello,
I am a Newbie with OpenFOAM and had my first experiences with mesh and geometry generation. Is it always necessary to create the mesh files (boundary, blockMeshDict, p, U) by hand via editing those textfiles? When the problem's geometry becomes very complicated, wouldn't it be easier to have a graphical construction tool, from which you could simply export the vertices and so on...? How do you set up your geometry and your grids when you develop a new simulation? Thanks you Greez Steffen |

Hi Steffen,
please have a look at the UserGuide Chapter 5. Most important and basic things about mesh generation and conversion are explained there. If you want to use a GUI to create your grid, you can use any preProcessor like e.g. gambit or anything else, which is able to export the grid in a format which is supported by the OpenFOAM converter. you can find a list of the convertes in chapter 5. of the UserGuide. Best, Florian |

Another short question - which of them doyou use and which of them is open source?
