In the 2.3 version of FOAM, gmshToFoam is supplied, however it can't handle physical boundaries, which is quiet crucial. Are there anyone that are planning to extent the converter to handling this? If so, I would be VERY interested to hear about it!
P.S. In the sourcecode for gmshToFoam it looks like it is under way?! |

Hello Rasmus,
gmshToFoam was a quick&dirty attempt to have a look at the gmsh generated meshes. I tried doing the patch info but then got stuck since I was not clear what they were using for the boundaries. Am quite willing try fixing that piece of code if you can send me a simple testcase. E.g. can you send me a cube built out of tets with some different physical boundaries? Mattijs |

I adapted the gmshToFoam converter to use physical regions as patch numbers. Tried it on one case (thanks Rasmus) and it seems to work.
It will be in the next release or contact me directly if you want to try it. It requires a version 1 format file (whatever that may be - don't ask me about gmsh) and both volume elements (tets/hexes) and surface elements (triangles) present. Mattijs |

I wrote a simple netgen Neutral file format converter. It will be in the next release or you can contact me if you want it earlier.
Netgen is a pretty good & simple tetrahedral mesh generator which also allows setting of boundary regions. Mattijs |

I made some modifications to the gmshToFoam converter to write out cellZones and faceZones of internal faces. A time consuming function call was also moved out of an inner loop, which seems to reduce the execution time significantly.
I have posted this to the wiki: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/Contrib_gmshToF oamMod Dave |
