checkMesh tells me that your mesh and cyclics are topologically ok. However the mesh is not very good , there are lots of distorted cells (max. non-orthogonality, max skewness). Try your problem with a better mesh with the same topology.

Thanks for your reply. I improved the mesh and now it all looks a lot better. It was indeed my very poor original mesh that was the problem, not the coupling of the cyclics.
