Dear all,
I would need to apply Genetic Algorithms optimisation to optimise a 2D airfoil shape. The main problem that I am facing is to mesh the airfoil and moreover to use the mesh from one shape to another in order to reduce the computational expenses (GA involves a lot of evaluations. Due to this is an academic study ( I am an MSc student) I am not allowed to use commercial software, so I would need to mesh with BlockMesh or another free software. I have read in one thread (http://www.cfd-online.com/cgi-bin/Op...cus/discus.cgi ) that BlockMesh is suitable for most 2D cases but in another thread (http://www.cfd-online.com/cgi-bin/Op...cus/discus.cgi ) seems to be the opposite. Is there any way to do this with BlockMesh or any free software easy to use? Is there any database or any test case than can give me an example or a mesh that I could use? Please, I would be very grateful if you give me some information, help or advice, I am really worried about this. Best Regards, Marta Pajon. |

Well, in fact what I have to do is to apply the GA optimisation to some 2D shape related with aerodynamics, so if you think there is another posibility easier than the airfoil, please let me know.

I know about a commercial software that can give change shape as parameter. Try Hypermesh morphing from Altair.

What about the files conteined in links as http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/wind/val.../raetaf01.html ? are this grids suitable to use in OpenFOAM? Could I use them to run some airfoil example?
Please, just a quick yes or not would be very helpful for me. Best regards, Marta |

Sorry but the post before was not complete. I know there is a converter utility: plot3dToFoam and I think it is ok for using the files that are included in the link that I was speaking about before. Is that right? does it means that the mesh would be generate just with this file?Thank you very much.

Sure!!
First the thesis most recently it was written for ÖZHAN ÖKSÜZ is a Doctoral thsesis (MULTIPLOID GENETIC ALGORITHMS FOR MULTI-OBJECTIVE TURBINE BLADE AERODYNAMIC OPTIMIZATION December 2007) This is my best reference, he use 2 diferents fitness funtion; I use only one iso-entopic efficiency If you dont Kwon anithyng about Genetc Algorithms first you have to read Introduction to Genetic Algorithms S.N Sivanandam S.N. Deepa And its important that you define 3D or 2D meshs Those are my recommendations!! Another reference would be my Masters thesis but I will end this year!! Greetings!! Eduardo Chavolla |

Sorry man!!
I use GAMBIT to ceate my meshes and Turbo Volumens ; and I simulate in ANSYS 12.1 using Non-reflecting boundary conditions; for the chock wave Greetings!! |
