Always saving these files as ASCII is annoying and uses lots of memory for large models. Are there planes to add binary support?

The beauty of open source is that you can write it yourself, right?

Here's some advice (this is how I would do it if I had to do it again - my first go with flex is not too impressive).

Fluent uses a well-structured language for its input-output: it is called Schemeand it corresponds to Lisp syntax. My advice would be to load Fluent files into a public domain version of Scheme interpreter (which will also take care of binary/ascii, I think) and then query the Scheme database for the components you need. Extracting the data needed to build the mesh is identical to existing converters, so you will be able to copy that.

Good luck, please keep me posted on the progress,

Hrv

Thanks Hrv,

I have done some scripting in scheme and some parsing of FLUENT-Files in Python. However, interpreting of binary data is totally new to me. I have guile availabe and can read the mesh into there but do not know how to do this from of c++ and how to "search the database". I will start taking a look at the existing code.

After consideration I tried to extend the existing code. Maybe this is not the best but for me fastest way to try first.

Ok...
I see the problems with flex in combination with binary files. I will consider alternatives. Doing it in Scheme as proposed by Hrv would mean integration of some Scheme code. I will consider.
