I would like to add more functionality to snappyHexMesh, can anyone please advise how I could add a 'searchableCylinder' function?

Have a look in $FOAM_SRC/meshTools/searchableSurface/ at e.g. searchableBox and searchableSphere. You'll need to find formulas for the intersection of a line with a (capped?) cylinder and for the nearest point on a cylinder. Am interested in this as well.
