I would like to build a 3D smoke stack simulation for my College project. How should i start defining the geometry and how should i prepare the mesh for solving with OpenFOAM.

Go through the three tutorials (lid-driven cavity, dam break and stress analysis) and try to follow blockMesh usage, the grid generator for OpenFOAM. Search the blockMesh forum for hints/tips. If your queries are not discussed there, post a message in the appropriate forum. Someone will help you. Some useful resources can be found in the wiki[1,2]
