Hi,
here is an easy one. But still, I cannot figure it out. As an OpenFOAM Newbie I want to calculate a 2D Mesh with OF (airfoil). My 2D structure is meshed with SalomeMeca. Converting with ideasUnvToFoam doesn't work because of the lack of the third dimension. What I do now is: I extrude the mesh in Salome. Define the boundaries. Export/Import it via ideasUnvToFoam. So far so good. Defining the Borders is in my mind complicated while you have to select every single border-face itself (to group it). Isn't there an easier way?? The best would be to use the extrudeMesh tool. BUT here is my problem: For the extrudeMesh I need a 2D Mesh opened in OpenFOAM (FoamX Case). How do I get the 2D Mesh inside FoamX in the first place ??? I also tried to go over gmsh (import/export) since the gmshToFoam can import 2D Meshes. gmsh doesn't realize the mesh itself. So I cannot manipulate it (e.g. extrude it). But by using the extrudeMesh it doesn't create patches, faces or anything (except the second set of Vertexes). I tried to run blockMesh. But this need the blockMeshDict, which I don't have... It only gives me the "originalPatch, othersidePatch, rest" Can anyone tell me the most comfort way to mesh an calculate an 2D airfoil (structured/hybrid grid)?! The fluentMeshToFoam tool is great since it extrudes the Mesh itself. Poorly I don't have possibily to export from sSalome into FluentMesh. Later I will have to calculate a complex 3D airfoil. I'm not sure if Salome is so friendly for this task. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot! |

Hi,
in Salome you can group your geometrie at first, than mesh it. "Create Group -> Group Type: Group on geometry"... Have fun Bye Thomas

yes, that would work if I wouldn't extrude the mesh in Salome. See, the groups are Edges. After Extrution I need to define Faces. Since an Edge is devitet in e.g. 20 segments, afterwards I would have 20 Faces.
Keeps the question: How to use the extrudeMesh tool from OF with an 2D Mesh from Salome? I just cannot get the Mesh in FoamX or elsewhere. |
