Hey everyone!

I am looking for a way to export a mesh written in the polymesh folder of an OpenFoam case, so that I can save it to a .cgns, .unv or .med file, and eventually use it in code_saturne.

I tried several things:

  • read the mesh in Paraview and save it as a CGNS file, but I cannot use it after the conversion

  • import the Paraview-generated CGNS in Salome Mesh. It creates two bodies (one for the surfaces, one for the volumes). I create a compound but somehow it distorts the elements and the mesh is useless.

  • foamToEnsight with several options, but the file misses the index of the vertices according to code_saturne

  • From Paraview, save the different boundary patches to stl files, import them in Salome then use them to create a 3D mesh, but I cannot figure out that last step.

I also looked into softwares that would allow the user to read an openfoam case and then save the mesh separately (I know cfMesh+ can do that, I also tried with Helyx OS and simflow without any success).

There is also a community utility foamToMed written for OF2.0 if I remember correctly, but I have to work with OFv2206...

And now I am running out of ideas does anyone have any experience with this kind of issue? Thanks for the help!

Hey!

I eventually found a workaround which does not need to use OF meshers: I used the Reverse Engineering module of FreeCad to map a bspline surface to my elevation map. Then I could use all the boolean operations needed in Salome.

If anyone does have an actual solution for the original question, feel free to post it
