Hello, I am quite new to OpenFOAM. I created a cylindrical body and performed meshing through blockMesh and snappyHexMesh. I referred to many sources and tutorial videos and followed the steps mention. The blockmesh created about 30000 cells. However when I try to create the mesh inside the geometry, the snappyhexMesh simply reduces the block mesh to the size of the geometry without capturing the geometry features at all meshing a cuboid instead of the cylindrical geometry that I defined. I viewed the mesh in paraview. I am not certain where the error is, but the end result is no what aimed. I have attached my files in the form of text files for reference.

My object is a solid cylinder of height 500 mm and diameter 470 mm. It has a cylindrical pocket at the bottom of height 100 mm and diameter 50 mm.

The outer curved surface area is defined as the cold boundary. The curved surface of the pocket is the hot boundary. The top of the main cylinder is the lid and the remaining surfaces (bottom and the base of the pocket) are walls.

Did you verify your locationInMesh is correctly positioned?

Some pictures might help.

I took a quick look into your sHM-Dict. Your locationInMesh has a good chance to land on a node of the background mesh, which is a potential cause of issues in snappy. You can try with some values that are slightly off, like (0.0012 0.1041 -0.015).

Hello, sorry for not getting back soon. I did what you suggested. However when I ran snappyhexmesh, it did not create the mesh inside the object. Instead it only trimmed the blockmesh to the height of the object leaving rest of the features unidentified. So I finally gave up and did the meshing with Salome instead. However I would like to know the possible cause of the problem.

Thank you for your help!
