Dear All,

I have a very peculiar question related to PatchToFace in regards with topoSet and setSet.

I am working on a heat transfer simulation using chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam solver.

I have many different test cases which are to be automated, in each test case, it contains 2 patches. One is a surface patch which is like a reverse curved U shape and other one is the bottom which is a plate. This is the design.

Simulation details.

1. I want to split the patch based on Field data(T), so that I can apply two BC. (One external temp file and another convection BC).

2. Firstly, I ran the simulation by applying External temp profile completely on the patch (It contains 0 temp for few faces and T >0 for rest of the faces).

3. Now, I used patchToFace to get the faceLabels of that patch. Based on these faceLabels, I co-related with the temp details of the simulated face.

4. The faceLabels are segregated into two patches now. One being the faceLabels with temp = 0 and another being faceLabels with temp>0.

5. After this, I applied createPatch and the process continued for simulation.

Why PatchFace problem?

1. When I extract the patch using PatchToFace, I get the entire patch correctly without any doubt.

2. But, the labels assigned to that is not in order. Meaning, as I am comparing these labels to simulated temp patch, I need the faceLabel to be exact as per the temp. Else, when I split the patch, I wont get the domain as needed.

3. This occurs only for few cases and not all.

4. I have attached both working and nonworking test case images related to all these with description.

5. If needed, I will send you the case file.

Images

1. Image after 1 simulation with temp assignment. (This patch is extracted and splitted according to t=0 and t>0).

2. After PatchToFace (either from setSet of topoSet), the comparison with the faceLabels and temp image is done. Here, we can see, the top contains temp data and bottom contains faceID data.

3. What I want to obtain after splitting the patch. Here, the left side is obtained when the patch is splitted using facelabels with T>0 and right side with T=0. ( This is for another case when faceLabel and T are in order).

4. What I am obtaining is linked below. Here, because the faceLabel is not aligned properly, I am getting some random generated split.

5. How to overcome these? How to make faceId of patchToFace to arrange properly? I tried using the code by looping over the faces of the patch to get faceIDs, but that was not also orderly arranged.

Any leads will be appreciated. Any additional documents is necessary, I will provide you.
