Hi all,

I am new to OpenFOAM, and I want to know why do we use blockMesh or SnappyMesh now that we can convert meshes from other commercial software?
Is there any advantage of blockMesh compared with the mesh converted from external (e.g. fluent mesh)? I am asking this because I see that blockMesh and Snappymesh are more complicated, especially for complex geometries. Thank you in advance

The advantages are:
1. They come preinstalled with OpenFOAM.
2. No mesh conversion or pre-processing necessary.
3. They are free.
4. The meshes can be parameterised.

snappyHexMesh is quite capable, and for many research applications, blockMesh is good enough.

Having choice is always good.
