Hello foamers.

This is my first entry at this forum. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I need to simulate a free falling object in a medium, like a rock in a water I could not find any dynamic mesh solver for this particular problem. While the object is moving to bottom, it cause a shrinkage on the meshes under it and the simulation crashes eventually.

I used sixDoFRigidBodyMotion. It can simulate the coupled motion of the object but does not remesh the domain or change the topology.

Which dynamic mesh solvers or which meshing strategy should I use? I would be very happy If you can share your comments with me.

Try Overset Mesh. Currently, it is only available in OpenFOAM ESI OpenCFD version (e.g: V1906).
Have a look at this page.

Hello,

Check the sphereDrop tutorial, it uses layer addition/removal technique with a sixDoFRigidBodyDisplacement boundary condition to simulate a falling sphere.

Or as CFD_10 suggested, go for overset.

Cheers,
Yann

Many thanks. I will look at OpenFoam ESI.
