Hi all,

I am trying to use snappyHexMesh to generate a multi-region mesh of a heated solid cylinder inside a fluid domain. To get started, I am trying to understand the snappyMultiRegionHeater tutorial. The issue I am facing with my specific geometry seems to also be a problem in the tutorial. Specifically, the default snapControls settings in the tutorial do not result in accurate snapping. For example, if you compare the heater.stl geometry from the tutorial with the final meshed heater (using the unchanged tutorial settings), they clearly show low quality snapping. Please see the attached pictures.

I have tried changing the snapControls settings, but I cannot seem to improve the quality of the snapping. Because the tutorial case does not seem to work correctly, I'm having trouble working with my specific more complicated geometry.

Please help! Thanks

Sorry for the bump, but I haven't made any progress with this issue. Is this problem simply due to the fact that we need more grid cells? Or can we still make this work by adjusting the snapping parameters. I haven't had any luck with that, and I would expect the tutorial case to work correctly.

Thanks again

For our information, OpenFOAM v1812 produces a well-snapped mesh with a default setting. OpenFOAM v6 produces a mesh you got. I have not compared the settings from the tutorial in both versions.
