STL surface ignored -snappyhexmesh

Hi,
I am a very new user of openfoam..after having completed few tutorials i am trying to mesh my geometry (file attached ). For the time being i am only trying to snap the block mesh on to the STL surface but unfortunately i am not able to see that happening. I only see a mesh which has filled the entire domain without any regards to the geometry. I have tried many things but have got no clue yet. I understand i am missing something big but just cant figure out what..Would be extremely thankful if someone can give a direction for this problem. I have attached my block mesh and snappy mesh dictionaries as well.. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...0/DrillBit.stl https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/.../blockMeshDict https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ppyHexMeshDict Thank you very much.. P.S-I am thinking as this is not a closed geometry do i need to completely change my meshing methodology. Last edited by Ananthakrishnan; July 5, 2015 at 01:49. |

Hello,
just a quick thought, have you checked the mesh at all the three time steps? And I would recommend to put your dicts directly in your post. That way you can check them more easily. It's just a personal opinion. Come back here if you couldn't solve your problem. Best regards, Kate |

Hi,
Thank you very much for your reply.. Actually i found out later. the boundary surface of the geometry is mentioned in the "boundary" file as a patch within polymesh folder but it is not reflecting in paraFoam.. When i converted the mesh to .msh and loaded in Fluent i could see the geometry surface very well. Its wierd but i dont know why its happening.. I am even able to create layers on this surface but even then its not shown in paraFoam!!!!!! may be i have missed some keyword which produces the geometry's surface!!! Thanks once again for your input.. Ananth |

You're welcome.
You have to go to the last time step in ParaView in order to inspect all the changes sHM made. Of course this is not the case if you used the -overwrite option. Kate |
