Mesh refinement and smooth interface shape

Hi All,
I am running a case where a droplet deforms in a surrounding fluid. I am able to generate a fine mesh around the interface to resolve the spherical interface. The refinement level for the mesh around the interface is 4. The problem now is that I need a smooth interface shape because the problem is sensitive to interface force (interface tension driven flow). However, if you look at the interface closely (attached: alpha_t=0.jpg), you'll find small corners and non-smoothness on the interface. (I guess this is cause by the block meshes I used.) Because of these corners, I always get large variations in 'pressure' and 'initial velocity' variations around the interface. (see attached: p_t=0.jpg). Could anyone tell me how can I get rid of those corners on the interface? Is there a 'smooth' function in OpenFOAM? Should I use even higher mesh levels? (I already have 200k cells...) You should try to improve the mesh, it seems to be pretty bad. Is it 2D or 3D?

Yes I used finer meshes on the boundary and I ran the simulation with no external forces on the system, and try to let the variations in the curvature stabilize the surface shape. An the results seem pretty good. See attached. |
