Hi, everyone

I am using OpenFOAM to simulate the three-dimensional external flow over a submarine. Now , I plan to use snappyHexMesh to generate the mesh, so a surface data profile formatted in STL corresponding to the submarine model is required. However, I do not know how to produce such a STL file for the submarine. Shall I need some kind of software to export this STL file? If so, shall anyone kindly recommend a proper software?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

If you have the cad part in STEP/IGES/BREP you can use Netgen, Gmsh or Salome to import the geometry and mesh the surface and export to 3D stl.

Hi, Linnemann ;

Thanks for your help. At present, I do not have the cad part in IGES/STEP/BREP file, so I

guess I need a software such as Freecad or Blender or BRL-CAD to generate this file that

contains the geometry information for the suboff model?

Hi

I just went through the original paper for the DARPA SubOff model and could not resist making a program that works with Salome 7.3.0.

You can download the script here.

https://github.com/nelinnemann/Salome-Scripts

The geometry can easily be meshed with the Salome Mesh Module
