Hi,

First of all excuse the poor English, It's not my main language.

I've been experimenting with snappyHexMesh for a couple of days now and came to wonder if what I'm trying is even possible.

I would like to create a simulation of an actively heated and circulated enclosure inside a room. I have performed measurements in an environmental chamber and would like to recreate the experiment in a simulation. The problem I'm having is with creating a mesh. What I would like is the following zones (described from the outside in):

1) The climate controlled room, containing
2) the walls of the enclosure, containing
3) the air inside the enclosure, containing
4) a fan to circulate the internal air.

After trying snappyHexMesh I'm wondering if creating something like this is even possible using this tool?

If it is possible would someone please inform me and perhaps help me along a bit. Also if it is not possible please tell me so I can try and find another way of doing this, or if anyone knows of a better way of setting up this simulation please don't be shy.

Thanks in advance,
R

Hi,

Im not an expert in SHM. But I think SHM can do very complex mesh. Regarding to your case, SHM can do it of course. But you should use another tools such as topoSet and something like this. Its a little complex and differ from case to case. You could try some tutorials : motorBike, and propeller.

This case is created by SHM.

Hey Sharonyue,

Thank you for your reply and suggestions, I'll have look at the propeller tutorial. I had already found the motorbike and have been working using the snappMulitRegionHeater tutorial and a couple of STL files I created. I found that the problem was not so much that I did the meshing wrong but the visualization in Paraviewer. To visualize the regions inside the domain you need to check the "Include zones" checkbox, which I accentually did yesterday evening. So that is one mystery solved, on to the next.

Now to start figuring out what solver(s) to use and how it works.
