Hello,

And ofcourse, a Good day too :-)! Though the weather really could be a lot better here considering it is a Friday and that there is a weekend coming up!!

I have been working on setting up a small cluster (4 Linux machines with a total of 10 cores) in the hope of increasing our OpenFOAM simulation capabilities, and as a pilot project to show the scalability of our simulation setup.

After looking through the different cluster options available and the effort required for setting up each of them (I am currently running on Fedora 10), I chose Condor. The installation and setup went through very smoothly, and I can see all cores on all the machines listed as available capacity through the "condor_status" command.

However, after all this, I was partially disappointed to find out that there seems to be no clear and direct method / interface to run OpenMPI parallel cases on Condor.

Does anyone here have experience running OpenFOAM cases in parallel (either OpenMPI or LAM should be fine.... I am flexible) on a Condor cluster? After a lot of "Googling" I was able to find some wrapper scripts for MPICH2 and OpenMPI, but nothing clear.

The other option was the Sun Grid Engine (SGE)... any suggestions on which of the two might be better? I briefly read that OpenMPI can be compiled with SGE awareness.... but again, the information seems to be very sparse.

I am sure there are a lot of Cluster gurus out here :-)!

Have a great day!

Philippose
