heya,

I was trying to build the documentation with Doxygen and it complained about not finding dot ...

sh: line 1: dot: command not found
Problems running dot. Check your installation!

is this "dot" application part of Graphviz package or something else altogether?

Yes dot is part of graphviz and you will need to install that as well if you would like the nice inheritance graphs. If you are not bothered about the graphs you can switch them off in the configuration file and then dot will not be needed.
