It cannot find 'nsd' which is one of the mico executables and should be in the distribution.
If I do 'which nsd' I get .../OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.1.1/src/mico-2.3.11/platforms/linuxGcc4Opt/bin/nsd (this is for a slightly different version though to the one you are running) |

Try and change the port number. Run runFoamXHB by itself, check for any errors and if nsd is still running.
Then run runFoamX (which should detect a running runFoamXHB/nsd) |

Hi Mattijs,
Thanks for your guidence, but i didn't catch what you mean. What is the 'port number' and how to change it? Could you explain a little bit more detail? I input 'runFoamXHB', which came out as follows: Starting NameServer with inet:Emma:1234 ... Starting FoamX Host Browser with inet:Emma:1234 ... /*---------------------------------------------------------------------------*\ | ========= | | | \ / F ield | OpenFOAM: The Open Source CFD Toolbox | | \ / O peration | Version: 1.1 | | \ / A nd | Web: http://www.openfoam.org | | \/ M anipulation | | \*---------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ Exec : FoamXHostBrowser Date : Jul 19 2005 Time : 15:44:02 Host : Emma PID : 6031 Root : Case : Nprocs : 1 HostBrowser running..... And then it hangs there :S |

port number: in your $FOAMX_USER_CONFIG/FoamXClient.cfg file uncomment and change the
org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort=1234 setting. Now open a second shell and runFoamX in that. It should find the ns.ref file which runFoamXHB has written (check for that one as well) and ask whether you want to use that one. You can put some print statements in both scripts to find out exactly what it does. |

Hi Mattijs,
Thanks again. I uncommented and changed the port, and i runFoamXHB in one terminal, the result was same as before that it hung there. I opened another terminal tab and runFoamX, it was what you said, it detected a running nsd as follows: Warning: a server already seems to be running. (Detected server reference /home/duxju/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.1/.OpenFOAM-1.1/apps/FoamX/ns.ref) Do you want to kill this server ? (n) Then, either i chose yes or no, the results were same as the situation i post firstly, ls: /home/duxju/OpenFOAM/jobControl/runningJobs: No such file or directory ls: /home/duxju/OpenFOAM/jobControl/finishedJobs: No such file or directory Jobs overview (from $FOAM_JOB_DIR): Running : 0 Finished : 0 Some of the jobs reported as running might actually no longer be running. Hi all,
I have the same problem as Georg Birmes (http://www.cfd-online.com/cgi-bin/Op...=3070#POST3070) when trying to run FoamX on knoppix. I installed the openfoam1.3 from the website. When I run FoamX it somes up with an error that ends with... nsd: cannot execute binary file I've moved the the appropriate directory in mico and run it by hand (i.e. typed nsd) and I get the same error as above. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? I thought it might not be compiled correctly and did a Allwmake or whatever to recompile openfoam... didn't help. I did a ./configure and make in the mico subdirectory. I have ssh running. I can ping my machine (knoppix) and localhost by hand - for some reason it doesn't work in the installation check script. Not sure where to go from here... any ideas? Cheers and best regards Rick Morgans |
