Hello! Recently I followed the instructions of OpenFoam for Windows to install OpenFoam 8 and Xming. Then I ran the tutorial case of cavity under Ubuntu 18.01LT in Windows 10. It ran fine, but I found it difficult to follow the tutorial because the GUI of ParaView is apparently different than what is shown in OpenFoam user guide. For example, under properties, there is no "Update GUI", and "Volume Fields" is "Fields" instead. The version of ParaView in my computer is 5.6. According to the OpenFoam 8 document, it is the standard package that comes with OpenFoam 8. I am new to OpenFoam. Has anybody had the same experience and known what causes the discrepancy? Thanks for help.

You need to distinguish between the native OpenFOAM reader from VTK [uses extension .foam] and the extra plugin that is attached on top of OpenFOAM (called 'paraFoam') [uses extension .OpenFOAM].

In general the native reader will cover most of what you need.

Mark, thank you for the reply. I use paraFoam to open the results.

Note that the "paraFoam" script will always fall back to using the regular builtin VTK OpenFOAM reader if the reader module library fails to load. You can also use "paraFoam -builtin" or "paraFoam -vtk" to specifically use the built-in reader.
