Quick answer: In theory, you can install any OpenFOAM version in that cluster. The only problem might be "which version is the easiest to be installed".
If I remember correctly, OpenFOAM 2.2 was the last version that could still be compiled with GCC 4.4. For newer versions of OpenFOAM, you will either need to request your administrator to provide a more recent version of GCC or build a newer version of GCC yourself. You can find several installation instructions for CentOS/RHEL 6.x here: https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/C...FOAM_on_CentOS - although most of them will build its own custom GCC version. As for using PMPI (is it Platform MPI?), I haven't used it myself with OpenFOAM. But in theory, it's a matter of changing the value defined for the variable "WM_MPLIB" in "OpenFOAM-*/etc/bashrc" and then edit the respective entry in "OpenfOAM-*/etc/config*/settings*".
