Quick question and request:
  1. Please state which Linux distribution and version that you are using.
  2. Please run the following commands:
    Code:
    cd $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR
gzip < log.makePV > log.makePV.gz

pwd
  3. The last command will tell you where the file "log.makePV.gz" is located. Please attach this file "log.makePV.gz" to your next post.

I am using Fedora 23 on a pentium 4 pc with 4gb ram.

I expected as much, the "ParaView-4.1.0" folder is missing within the folder "ThirdParty-2.3.0". Something went wrong when you unpacked the file "ThirdParty-2.3.0.tgz".

bash: mpicc: command not found...
[tlcoons@localhost ~]$ cd $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR
[tlcoons@localhost ThirdParty-2.3.1]$ ./makeParaView4
*** Error: cannot find qmake either at $QMAKE_PATH or in current $PATH

Unpacking the thirdparty-2.3.0.tgz again put paraview-4.1.0 in the thirdparty folder. I received the above error messages when trying to make paraview4.

Hold on, something isn't right. The first line refers to "ThirdParty-2.3.1" and you've been referring to "ThirdParty-2.3.0"...
Do you have OpenFOAM 2.3.1 already installed? Or have you been trying to install both versions?

Either way, detailed instructions for either version are available here:
Both instructions should still work just fine with Fedora 23... or at least I hope they do.


As for switching between OpenFOAM versions, you should start a new terminal and activate only one command line environment for a particular version. For more details, please study this wiki page: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...with_the_Shell

I installed OpenFOAM-2.3.0 and when I had issues I installed OpenFOAM-2.3.1.
ParaView-4.1.0 unpacked into the correct directory the second time for OpenFOAM-2.3.0.
Late last night I started the install of OpenFoam-2.4.0.

I switched to OpenFOAM-2.3.0 and ran ./Allwmake again.
I then switched to ThirdParty-2.3.0.
I ran the following:

    The environment variables are inconsistent with the installation.
    Check the OpenFOAM entries in your dot-files and source them.
I am not sure what to try next.

Default Error Installing OpenFOAM-2.3.0

I reran ./Allwmake > make3.log 2>&1 twice and compressed the log file.
I then ran icoFOAM -help and received the error message;
bash: icoFOAM: command not found...
This was done in the OpenFOAM Directory.

I uncompressed both OpenFOAM-2.3.0 and ThirdParty-2.3.0.
I ran ./Allwmake and created make.log.
I changed to the ThirdParty-2.3.0 directory and ran ./makeParaView4
I received the error message:
*** Error: cannot find qmake either at $QMAKE_PATH or in current $PATH

The problem here is that the correct name is "icoFoam", not "icoFOAM".
Linux is case-sensitive and so is OpenFOAM.

As for the older problem in building ParaView, run the following commands, before you try to build ParaView again:

make1.log.gzI deleted OpenFOAM-2.3.0, OpenFOAM-2.3.1, ThirdParty-2.3.0, and ThirdParty-2.3.1.
I then uncompressed OpenFOAM-2.4.0 and ThirdParty-2.4.0 in the OpenFOAM directory.
Then worked through to step 6 & 7.I followed step 8 and 9.
When I ran icoFoam, I received the following error message:

Quick answer: OK, that error means that it's working properly.

The following commands are the first ones to be executed for the very first tutorial from the OpenFOAM User Guide: http://cfd.direct/openfoam/user-guide/tutorials/

cp -r $FOAM_TUTORIALS $FOAM_RUN

cd $FOAM_RUN/tutorials/incompressible/icoFoam/cavity

blockMesh
icoFoam
If all goes well, you should not get any error messages.


Nonetheless, you will still need to continue to follow the installation instructions, because ParaView is not yet installed.
