Hi,
It's a rainy day, so I tried to install OpenFOAM-2.3.0 in Mac. It ended with:

Annes-iMac:Volumes annewijbenga$ sudo port select --summary
Name Selected Options
==== ======== =======
db none db48 none
gcc mp-gcc48 mp-gcc46 mp-gcc48 mp-gcc49 none
llvm mp-llvm-3.5 mp-llvm-3.5 none
mpi openmpi-gcc48-fortran openmpi-gcc48-fortran openmpi-mp-fortran none
python python27 python26-apple python27 python27-apple none
python2 none python26-apple python27 python27-apple none
Annes-iMac:Volumes annewijbenga$ sudo port select --set db db48
Selecting 'db48' for 'db' failed: The configuration file '/opt/local/etc/select/db/base' could not be opened.

I tried to look into the configuration file but:

Annes-iMac:db annewijbenga$ pwd
/opt/local/etc/select/db
Annes-iMac:db annewijbenga$ ls -lstr
total 8
8 -rw-r--r-- 1 root admin 124 Nov 12 2014 db48
Annes-iMac:db annewijbenga$

What am I missing to continue with the next step?
regards Anne

Quick answer: That's a macports question. Googling "db48 macports" got me this: https://forum.bitcraze.io/viewtopic.php?t=1105#p6290

Thanx for thinking with me, I am all new to this, but it looks like I am missing the configuration file.
It is the very first time that I use Macports, I never installed it before (and whatever needed to install OF). I generally run dmg packages for installation.

Does that shed new light on my question/problem
S.

Sorry, but I don't have a Mac, so I'm not able to test and fix this.
I do know that this issue has been reported here on the forum at least 2 other times:
In neither cases did they provide solutions for the problem. Which is why I answered what I found by Googling, and on that thread I provided it did seem to explain how to fix this issue.

Hi,

@Silvester

My 0.02$...

1. In fact the problem is in your Macports installation, so, I guess, you will find solution faster on Macports-specialized forum/mailing-list (https://trac.macports.org).

2. You can install OpenFOAM without Macports.

Would you recommend installing it with brew instead alexey? I'm having the same issue as Anne.

Well, in general, I recommend "whatever works". Macports should help you to manage third-party software, yet, if you have the same problem, it does not.

So you have several choices:
a) use Google to find a solution (if there is any)
b) post a problem (for example) here; wait for a person, who had the same problem and solved it, to read your message and post his solution
c) (this is classic) reinstall Macports and hope this time everything will be fine
d) try Homebrew
