Hi,

I have followed the installation guide for OpenFOAM 2.2.2 on Mac OS and keep getting an error while trying to compile. Unfortunately I'm not able to solve the problem myself because I'm a beginner. I have attached the log file.
I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi,

in the log file there are two distinct problems:

1.

Code:
make: *** No rule to make target ` /OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-2.2.2/wmake/rules/darwinIntel64Gcc46/mplibSYSTEMOPENMPI'. Stop.
One with ptscotch build. I don't know if the patches you're using even supposed to work with system-wide installed OpenMPI. I guess you have to go with ThirdParty OpenMPI as any way you're using ThirdParty tarball.

2.

Code:
+ wmake snappyHexMesh
darwinIntel64Gcc46DPOpt/options:9: *** missing separator.  Stop.
wmake error: file 'Make/darwinIntel64Gcc46DPOpt/objectFiles' could not be created in /OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-2.2.2/applications/utilitie
make[1]: *** [generation] Error 1
This kind of error appears in several places and is due to comments in Make/options files of the corresponding applications. Not much you can do except cleaning up these comments from options files where the error appears.

Hi,

thank you for your reply!

I tried to solve the problems but ended up using the sparse image for foam-extend-3.1. But when I try to use parallel computing in the damBreak tutorial there still seems to be a problem with OpenMPI.

Code:
It looks like opal_init failed for some reason; your parallel process is
likely to abort. There are many reasons that a parallel process can
fail during opal_init; some of which are due to configuration or
environment problems.  This failure appears to be an internal failure;
here's some additional information (which may only be relevant to an
Open MPI developer):

  opal_shmem_base_select failed
  --> Returned value -1 instead of OPAL_SUCCESS
