Hello,
in order to use an OpenGL application in a compositing window manager you have to have frame buffer overlay working. If you have a non-nvidia graphics card then dri2 has to be functional for this to work. The solution is to disable "enhanced desktop effects". Regards Björn Bergqvist

Hi,
Under Ubuntu 9.04, I goto: System/Preferences/Appearance/Visual Effects It shows: None: Provides a simple desktop environment without any effects. I am playing with an ancient PC. Maybe the display card is too old. Regards, Cean |

Hi,
The gears rotate very well on the first pc where ::setup also works well but dicretizer occupies the whole screen. In fact this pc can't even set Normal Visual Effects. Can only choose None effects. Will try the gears on the other pc where the discretizer drawing area is not correct. This pc can set on Extra visual effects. Reagards, Cean |

discretizer occupies whole screen is beacuse my screen is set at 1024X768 and discretizer is also initialized at 1024*768. After change the discretizer.rb at 800X600, no problem now.
Still have problem with the other pc which can't show the drawing area correctly. what is 'dri2'? Maybe I need to change a non-compositing window manager. |

No tutorial.
Some experience. What do you want to model? Are you aiming for an ogrid? maybe ogrid+snappy :-)

Hello,
I am running the 64bit version of discretizer in CAELinux 2009, and the program operates without any problems, except the "import" option in the file menu is disabled (grayed out). Is this purposeful? When I try to follow the steps in the discretizer manual, or in the screencasts, everything works well with generating a mesh in netgen, and exporting as a neutral file; however, when I reach the importing step in discretizer, I can't proceed. The only issue that I can think of is that my model was generated in Alibre Design, and then exported as an .STL rather than being generated in Freecad; however, I don't know why this would effect the import function of discretizer. I haven't found any other posts of users with this particular issue, and any help would be greatly appreciated! Charles |

So File -> Open STL doesn't work.
Then you can open stl in paraview and save it as ascii stl. or cd discretizer/svn svn update To activate import commands discretizer-setup has to be started in a shell where OpenFOAM commands are available . ~/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-X/etc/bashrc ~/discretizer/discretizer_setup.sh

Bjorn,
Thanks for the immediate response. Because I am using CAELinux 2009, I don't actually have permission to open the folders using: ~/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.5/etc/bashrc It returns "Permission Denied." However, in "Applications - CAELinux - OpenFOAM terminal" I can enter the line: ~/discretizer/discretizer_setup64.sh and it will open discretizer with the import function enabled!! Hope that this workaround will help other users. Charles |

I just installed the Discretizer and trying to solve some simple case. But I face an error with this:
boundary file written in 0.0100000000000016 s faces file written in 1.59 s time for mesh1: 6.34 sh: transformPoints: not found simpleFoam -case step Beside, I cant open my paraview by pressing the paraview button. May I know whats go wrong with my setting and configuration? Regards Lee |

You have not initialized OpenFOAM. Make sure transformPoints and simpleFoam are available in the shell from where you start Discretizer.

Hi there,
I have followed the procedure in http://www.discretizer.org/node/12 to try to install Discretizer on Windows. When I double-clicked discretizer.rb, nothing happened. I have even tried installing the latest version of ruby but still nothing. Any suggestions? Did i miss out on something? Thanks, Sam Last edited by anthropoy; September 8, 2010 at 12:04. |

Windows binary release
Download: http://www.discretizer.org/node/2 (53 MB) Uncompress the zip-file in c:\discretizer If you want to install in another location, edit the bat-files (discretizer.bat and discretizersetup.bat). For full functionality OpenFOAM has to be installed. Screencast: http://www.discretizer.org/node/21 Björn

Hello Björn,
you've definitely developed a useful tool. I'm impressed about the fact of getting such cool stuff for free!! It makes life much easier... Now I'd like to use ist in the OpenFoam environment, but following the instructions that I found in the Descretizer Manual - Release date 09/01/10 paragraph 1.3 Installing Discretizer I can't get it working. After unpacking it within the /opt directory, a "discretizer" directory was created. In that directory I can find two .sh files. I can start the discretizer easily by tying ./nameof.sh file. But do I want to start it within a casedirctory of OpenFoam like explained on the download page: "Just unpack and run "discretizer_setup64.sh" (example). For OpenFOAM functionality, start in a shell with OpenFOAM commands enabled." it says: command discretizer_setup64.sh not found... shouldn't be set an alias or an environment variable which points to the discretizer directory within the opt directory? If so, where and how do I have to set it. In the .bashrc or in the etc/apps/bashrc of the OpenFoam directory? I appreciate any input. Thanx in advance, Antonio |
