Hi,

I am trying to simulate stokes first order waves in wave tank using waves2Foam in OF2.3.1. But the wave height gradually decreasing as time increase in downstream direction even in relaxation zone. My computational domain (-10 -4 -4) to (7 4 2). My inlet relaxation 7 to -2 and outlet relation zone from 5 to 10 and the wave is generated in negative X-direction. The attached figures are at 1sec, 5 sec and 11 sec respectively. For boundary conditions by I have used waveFlume boundary except the two sides are slip only. I have attached wave Properties input.

I am trying to fixed these problem for last 2 weeks but could not fixed it. I appreciate your any kind of help or suggestion.

Regards,

Hi Ali,

I think your relaxation zone covers most of your domain, only -2 to -5 is out.
Try reducing the x dimension of each relaxation zone to 0.5 or 1 m and try.

Carlos.

Good afternoon,

@Ali: It is impossible to assist you with the provided information. Look for instance at the post by Xiantao (Stokesfirst wave profile asymetrical against the still water level??), which offers a lot of information. If you are using turbulence models, you should also include that information.

Kind regards,

Niels

Good morning.

@Carlos: Thank you very much. I have reduced the relaxation zone at the both end and kept it 5 m as I will simulate a wave having length 4 m. I tried different mesh density in free surface region and found the accuracy in wave height increase with mesh density.
@Niels: Thank you very much. From the next time I will provide more information when I will post a problem in this forum
