Dear Foamers
I am a new user and I am working on the interaction between waves and breakwatres. I have compiled waves2foam with interDyMFoam and as the result my solver is waveDyMFoam. I have a question about the inputs of irregular waves. I use JONSWAP Spectrum as the irregular waves. In the waveproperties file it needs T Soft, unfortunately I do not know the underlying concept of that. Does anyone know what is T Soft?
I appreciate your kindness in advance
Best Regards
Anna

Good evening.

@Anna: Tsoft is the time over which the waves are ramped from zero to the final value. This functionality is present to avoid shocks at t = 0.

Kind regards,

Niels

Dear Niels,
Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately, the under lying concept of T soft is still unclear for me. I have modeled a irregular waves with JONSWAP Spectrum with (Tf=Tp=1.2 sec) and (Hs=0.045 m) and (N=30). Not only does the maximum of the surface elevation not match with Hs, but also the surface elevation reduces in the length of the flume. I have attached the picture of the mentioned result at two different probes at the specific time(in the next post). Although the Tsoft and Tp are the same at this simulation, I can not solve this problem. It is vague for me this differences.
I appreciate your kindness in advance
Best Regards

Good evening,

@Anna: You most likely suffer from numerical diffusion due to too coarse mesh resolution or poorly chosen numerical schemes.

Kind regards

Niels
