Hi Pablo,
I want to generate wave by reading a file containing velocities and wave elevation, instead of computing through expression.I have written a program which reads the file and giving velocities and elevation at different time steps and depths. I am not able to use it into the IhFoam.please help |

Dear all
I'm trying to use ihDyMFoam to simulate seakeeping. My geomtry is a crew boat (L=19m). I use stokeII for wave theory. The wave period is 4,8s. Under 1.35m wave height, there is no problem but when I increase the height my simulation crash. Have you any idea to help me? I join the IHWaveDict Best regard |

floating_cylinder_AP.zip
this is one of my implemented models... the geometry is significantly simplified. as I said to you, my cylinder is floating, but if you change BC and dynamicMeshDict it should be ready for you study case. hope this can help you Agnese |

Hi there
I am new to IHFoam, I am just wondering if there is anyway to output the water level elevation after the simulation. I tried the wave flume simulation, however i am not sure how to output the water level elevation changes. Is there any suggestion? |

Dear Pablo
First I want to appreciate your hard work. I have some question about these software. I have a question regarding to modelling of the flap energy converter. It contains a rectangular box locating at the bottom of the sea and rotating about its bottom fixed axis. The coupling motion of this flap and wave is our main problem and also the free surface of the water is a focal point. In the other thesis we try to model a breakwater. It contains a rectangular box locating on the surface of the sea and waves make this box to have heave motion. The coupling motion of this box with wave is our main problem and also the free surface of the water is important. The question is whether it is possible to model such a problem with OpenFoam or IHFoam? which solver can solve this problem? My email address is zahra.mozhgani@aut.ac.ir. I appreciate your kindness in advance. Best Regards Zahra |

Hi Zhifang, it is certainly possible, from free surface gauges to isosurfaces or even using paraview. Just do a quick search in this forum and you will find it easily.
Hi Anna, I see no reason why IHFOAM/OpenFOAM will not be capable of simulating either. It might not be straightforward and require programming, but that is what a PhD is all about... Best, Pablo |

Hi
Thanks for the reply, i've been playing with IHFoam lately and i found its not really working properly, i dont know why. I modify the basic wave flume case, with a total depth of 300 m and total length of 1500 m, and still keep the cnodial wave, however change the wave height to 5 m and period to 10 s, which makes it still stay inside the linear wave theory region. However, after i run the simulation, it surely not doing the right thing. The attachment is a screenshot from paraview, the water depth is 200 m, the air above is 100 m, however you can see it's really doing crazy stuff, the water is getting outside the boundary. Any suggestion of why. |

Anyone please help. I feel really frustrating now.
I dont know if its because of the version of OpenFoam i using or what, it just seems that, it doesnt matter what i do to modify the waveflume case. The outlet boundary condition will not work, and the water just keep on filling the whole system. For instance, even if i just change the depth of the wave flume to 1 m instead of 0.7 m and keep the depth of water and the rest the same, the case doesnt work. I am using OpenFOAM 2.4.0, and running the cases in tutorial folder OP230_240. Any suggestion? |

Hi Pablo,
I am testing the ihFoam and ihDyMFoam for OF300, for the ihFoam everything works fine but for the ihDyFoam I am experiencing some problems...do you know if it is working properly? the error is: diogo@diogo-Easynote-ENTF71BM:~/IHFOAM/tutorials/OF300/pistonFlume$ ./runCase blockMesh meshing... Hi Diogo,
although I didn't advertise it, I have included the moving boundary wave generation capabilities in my code. However, I have not yet integrated them in the one-click compilation script. You need to compile the BC: cd genAbs/waveGeneration/IH_Waves_MultiPistonMovement ./localMake And then ihDyMFoam should be aware of it. Best, Pablo |

hi Pablo,
I am using IHFOAM to calculate the force on a verical cylinder under waves.I have imported my msh file from ansys fluent.Everything works fine but when i am trying to run the solver(IHFOAM) after some iteration it shows a Floating point exception (core dumped) error. Can u pls help me in finding the problem in my case set up.I am attaching my case set with this. https://www.dropbox.com/s/z5gdxy94zn...er.tar.gz?dl=0 |

Hi Nirbhay,
the problem is the mesh, it is not good enough. Best, Pablo |
