Dear CFD colleagues,
I'm working on my master thesis. It deals with an oscillating airfoil simulation in fluent. At this point i'm trying to create my mesh in Ansys ICEM 14.5. I would like to create a structured grid in the immediate vicinity of my airfoil with an unstructured grid around it. The outer boundary of this structured grid would be a scaled up version of my airfoil. As it turns out , i can't seem to find much tutorials or help online to help me learn how to work in ICEM and get it done. Also , i don't really know the terminology used for what i'm trying to do so this makes the search even harder. Can anybody help out ? Thanks |

Hello,
Your description is spot on. You would like a structured o-grid around the airfoil, generated by a hyperbolic extrusion, surrounded by an unstructured grid. Please see the attached image. I did this mesh using Pointwise, not ANSYS. But, if you're interested in generating grids like this automatically, please let me know and I can provide some additional information about the tool I used. Regards, Travis |

Thank you very much for the help! Yes I am certainly interested in the tool you used. It is still an option to change to Pointwise since i only JUST started to figure out ICEM. |

While trying some more in ICEM i got stuck. The steps i follow are these :
1) i initiate a block 2) i associate the 4 edges of this block to the 2curves of my scaled up wing geometry 3) i create and O grid block starting from the original block 4) i associate al 4 edges of the inner block to the 2 curves of my actual wing ( the inner geometry) When i click mesh preview i get this : |
