Hi,

I am writing a small piece of CFD code. I have a simple problem. I have a flat plate over which water is flowing (laminar). I want to give a 2D velocity profile to that flowing water. Is there any empirical correlation (analytical solutions are obviously too difficult to implement in a CFD code) that I can use?

I didn't understand what's your main problem. But, you can consider a velocity profile as known, in your case. There are some classic profiles, as the 1/7, for example.

You can also use a constant velocity profile, just to test your code.

thanks victor for ur reply. but isn't the 1/7th profile for turbulent flow? i have clearly mentioned its a laminar flow. see, my problem is, my code is good enough to simulate water flowing over the flat plate, which i can do by giving a pressure difference. but in that case, i have no control over the velocity profile (if at all, a velocity profile develops). i want to specify a realistic velocity profile as the inlet boundary condition, so that the flow adapts to it when it enters.

as i said, the flow being laminar, 1/7th law is not applicable. any other suggestions please?
