Hi All;
I am trying to simulate the flow over a circular cylinder in FLUENT. At Re=400 I am tring to show that the solution is grid independent. I want compare the mean drag coefficients but my simulation gives me a drag coefficient of 1.5 where the experimental data is 1.2-1.25. how can I improve my solution. I am using second order for everyting and the coupled solver. |

Do you perform 2D-simulations? According to Appl. Math. Model., 33, p.1228 (2009) mean drag coefficient for Re=400 is 1.39 for 2D and 1.05 for 3D-simulations. For the flow over circular cylinder 3D-effects like oblique shedding begin about Re=150 and persist even for very long cylinders (with aspect ratio over 100).

Thanks for your concern. I am performing 2-d and compare the solutions with the Braza-1986. I his presented values in the paper is for 2-D numerical simulations.
