Hi all,

I'm using two PC with 12 cores each for my CFD simulations, using Fluent and Openfoam. For parallel computations, the computers are interconnected via a switch which makes a lot of noise and makes it impossible to place it near the working space. Both have RedHat 5.7.

The machines can be placed in a remote location, too far for any cable to be connected between the PC and the display/keyboard/mouse. Local LAN connection is available.

Can you guys suggest what is the best way to remotely communicate with the PC's (see the display from my working space, use the mouse and the keyboard...)?

The IT in my company suggests using Remote X-Windows Server or Remote IP KVM. What can you say about these two?

Thank you!

i'd just ssh in them. way faster. at the end of the dai i'd expect them to spend most of the time cruncing the simulations, so i won't put a destop enviroment or anything like that.

in a similar way i pre-postprocess the cases on a laptop and then send everything on the number crunching machines.

Send a message via Skype™ to julien.decharentenay
NX Viewer/NX Server (http://www.nomachine.com/download.php) - both free. The NX server should be easy to setup on the linux box and the NX viewer can be setup on a windows computer without problem.

For post-processing, you may found it difficult to do it on a remote machine and will then have to be do it locally.

Thank you guys!

I have a problem. I connected to the Linux machine where Fluent is installed using XWin32 software. Fluent starts, but I get the following message:

--------------------------------------------------
No error handler available

Error: Cortex received a fatal sign (SEGMENTATION VIOLATION)
Error Object: ()
---------------------------------------------------

When I run fluent from the Linux machine, I get no such error.

What is the problem? How can I solve it?

Thanks in advance!
