Hello all,

I am interested in making some summer course in fluid mechanics next year.
Has anyone attended this kind of course? Could you indicate some?

Thanks a lot.

What level are you looking for? beginner? language requirements? If you happen to speak German, I could recommend one

Cheers

I've been studied in Wales for 3 years now in Glyndwr University in Wrexham
I've done a Bachelor in Aeronautical & Mechanical Engineering followed by a Master in Aeronautical Engineering and I know there is a summer school in here.
I've spent the whole summer in here to work on my master project and I was in the computers room while people doing summer school were there and I know that the aim of their work was to design a plane, make it at a smaller scale obviously and then test its performances in the university wind tunnel.
I dont know if there is other kinds of course and topic and don't know if it is what you're looking for either. I guess the best would be to get in touch with the university. You can easily find phone numbers on their website.

Hi,

Thanks for this.

About the level, I am a Ph.D. student (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) but I think is better to post all type of Summer Courses because undergrad and master students could be interested in this courses. So, if anybody know about Fluids Mechanics Summer courses, just post here.

I am a bit concerned about the course in Germany. If the talks will be in English, that's fine... cfdnewbie could you post the link of this Summer course in Germany ? I would like to know more information about it.

yannossss, could you make the same, post the link for the Wales course. In this sense every body that access this thread will have this information.

Thanks again.

Here is the link for the summer school.

http://saturn.glyndwr.ac.uk/summer/C....aspx?idStep=7

It was for the summer 2011 so it's over now but I guess it will be kinda the same next summer.

The course is Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Aeronautical Technology. It is the closer to a course in fluid dynamics but it is not onlt fluid dynamics and I think it is more aerodynamics than fluid dynamics.

Check out courses C and F:

https://fs.hlrs.de/projects/par/even...lel_prog_2011/

However, it's in German (sadly), plus it's definitely an introductory course....sorry mate!

you are very welcome. hopefully, you'll find sth useful... I'd be interested in sth similar as well... not sure if the VKI is up your alley (moneywise), but they have short courses throughout the year, although not in the summer months...

Hi cfdnewbie,

Summer course in VKI is very famous. I'll really like to make one there, but I heard that is necessary a recommendation letter from some VK researcher or somebody that already made this course. I am not sure about this information and I will try to send a email to the secretary to know more about it.

About the HLRS courses, it looks very interesting to me, mainly the GPU programming course and Introduction to CFD, but both courses is in German (unfortunately). I think that there is a lot of Fluids Dynamics courses around Europe, sometimes it don't have a big disclose.

Hey Rophys,
not sure what you mean by VKI summer course....
they offer short courses / lectures series throughout the year, mostly in fall till spring. They are usually one week, and about a specific topic (like e.g. LES). I've been to two of these in the last years, pretty useful! You would need a letter of recommendation from your superior/boss/professor to waive some of the costs, but basically everyone can participate....

I'm not sure if they have a special summer school/course ....

Let me know if you need any more info on the lecture series/short course stuff!

About the HLRS-stuff: Their courses are pretty good (okay, me saying that might have sth to do with me having taught some classes/lectures in there ), occasionally some will be held in English (depending on the fluency of the speaker), so you might check their website now and then...

Cheers!

Hi cfdnewbie,

Some time ago I saw a Fluid Dynamic course in the VKI web site, maybe it was this short course that you told me (It is not a summer course properly). Unfortunately I was not able to attend it. In this year will be a bit complicate to attend this course, for this reason I am looking for my option for the next years.

I will keep looking at the sites that you recommended me and I trying to find more options for courses in fluid dynamics. If you find out anything else, just post here, Ok?

Cheers !

You probably saw this one:
https://www.vki.ac.be/index.php?option=com_jevents&task=icalrepeat.detai l&evid=229&Itemid=329&year=2011&month=01&day=10&ti tle=introduction-to-computational-fluid-dynamics-vki-ls&uid=7480b86c145e1b8b83f25314debcf90d&catids=109 |114|111|110|113|112

It's the CFD course held by Anderson, and it is held every year in January, so maybe next time you can make it....

Good luck, VKI is a cool place to be!

Cheers till then!
