Hi,
Does anyone know a free tool that can be used for translating a polygon STL file to a IGES Surface file. Inorder to import it into oure CAD software for building models for oure CFD software. Thanks in advance. Kind Regards Jens |

I have been trying to look into one myself for years and haven't got any. In fact, I don't know even a paid software which does a good job on such situations! It is mathematically very challenging job and lot of people gave up trying it out.. Those who can do it, in fact, create a NURB surface for every STL triangle Well, that's not quite bad though..

to develop such a code could be a job for someone; as a master or a phd thesis. I tried some things using stl format (conversion of 3D pipe geometry into 1D scheme, export/import between catia, ansys, icemcfd..) but found that ascii format (generated by catia) contains many errors prohibiting correct data transfer. binary format seems to be free of such errors, but many of the tries were not successful. it seems to me it depends on the computer (or code) instantaneous mood or weather or what
