Hi all,
at my work i have to perform acoustic analisys on the impeller of a new axial flow fan: i would use a computational aero-acoustic (CAA) approach to realize my study and so, i'd like get some information about CAA.
How can i implement this type of approach?
Are CAA analysis as reliable as CFD predictions?

Can someone answer me?

Thanks in advance!

Hi famarcfd,

I'm working on the same kind of problem, right now, so unfortunately I cannot bring you some answers but only try to help each other. Of what I learned, it is necessary to split up your problem in 2 parts : the aerodynamics part, with your noise source, being solved by a CFD code, and then a wave propagation code to simulate its radiation from the near field to the far field. I hope this helps.
What kind of CAA code do you intend to use?

Regards,
Bertrand

hi Bertrand,
if i want to write a code based on the FW-H equation to predicte the far-field noise, what should i do?
any information will be great appreciated.

CAA includes a number of methods, from solving some equations for the acoustic field on a background flow up to a full DNS, where the acoustics come about naturally as a part of the NS solution....

so what level of abstraction/modeling are you talking about??

Wiki might indeed give you a good overview of what is out there:

Cheers!
