I am thinking of doing a PhD project in either hydrodynamic stability or the CFD. I am mainly interested in concentrating on aerodynamic applications. Do you think hydrodynamic stability (transition to turbulence) is more challenging or is CFD more challenging? Several people have told me that hydrodynamic stability is far more difficult than CFD. Please advise.

Which one is more difficult? It depends on which level you want to achieve.
