2D mass conservation could be splitted or not?

hi all:
If I solve 2D mass conservation equation. Ht+(HU)x+(HV)y=0 is that possible for me to split it to 2 1D problem by 2 steps? 1). Ht+(HU)x=0 to get H intermediate value, U is value at n time step 2). Ht+(HV)y=0 to correct this intermediate value, V is value at n time step. thanks a lot. I see a lot of people using splitting method to seperate diffusion term and pressure term. but I never see people do that to mass conservation. Last edited by nashiong; July 3, 2010 at 18:47. |

besides, I am also confusing about the essence of ADI. It seems ADI is for 2D heat diffusion equation. it targets at only 1 variables. if the equation is not decoupled, we can not use ADI directly?....
