Default relaxation parameter

hi friends,

When using PSOR (point successive over relaxation) method, we all know that relaxation parameter [say(w)] should be in between 0 and 2. And the optimum value of relaxation parameter (w) is derived from the equation

w_optimum=(2-2(1-a)^0.5)/a

and 'a'=f(ratio of deltax,deltay; and number of grid points).

My question is what is the significance of this equation in finding out the relaxation parameter (w). I mean to say........what this equation actually doing by taking the parameters of grid.

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

rvndr
