Hi guys,
I am an MSc Student at the university of Sheffield. My research project for this year is "The Effects of streamlining racing car bodies and downforce generation and aerodynamic drag". For the Preprocessing I use Gambit and to solve the model, Fluent. However, every time I mesh the volume around the model, I get the following error: Initialization failed, Perturb boundary nodes and try again!!! Followed by an error and an unmeshed volume. I have meshed each face individually to ensure no skewed elements are present in any faces, but the same problem arises. Also, is it better to mesh the racing car very fine and the box around the car more coarse or the other way around? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim |

Usually hybrid mesh are used:
- prisms layers near the surface - hexcore in the volume - a transition using tets I'm not an expert user but the volume mesh in this case is generated using TGRID. I'm the advisor for a Student project at our University (we are sponsored by ANSYS) for the land speed record of a go kart. Take a look here: http://www.topspeedkart.com/italiano.htm http://www.torvergata-karting.it/fil...008_CARENA.pdf We have used at that time one of the first version of the mesh morpher add on for Fluent RBF Morph (http://www.rbf-morph.com). Thanks for the response Marco
I had a look for TGrid, but unfortunately I do not have access to the software. I also had a look at the PDF file u sent. It sounds very interesting and similar to what I am doing. What University are you working at? Tim Last edited by T1M; February 28, 2010 at 16:10. |

The University of Rome "Tor Vergata".
I'm the coordinator of the group "Tor Vergata Karting" we follow several projects related to motor sport. Take a look to the google English version of our web site: http://translate.google.it/translate...&history_state |

Hi Tim,
if your university has Gambit and Fluent you should be able to access Tgrid too. They share the same license. If your software is running on a shared facility maybe you should ask someone to install Tgrid. Regards |

Hello! Body!
Do you have the "FLIC" software from your university. If you have, could you share it ? |

Tim, Decompose your volume ! its sounds like old gamble is getting a bit upset when it tries to create the 3d mesh (unstructured ? yes I pressume). So split up your volume into more manageble chunks, and that will also enable you to hone into the problem area. Do you have acute corners in the geometry somewhere, that as the mesh front is grown, the skewness gets progressivly worse and then it fails?
Keep it Real. No really... Keep it real , virtual geometry should be outlawed ! Have a whizz with Tgrid first though, splitting up the volume could be alot of work. |
