Hello Friends,
I am looking for one or two nice validation/test cases for steady state 2-d thermal stresses (plane stress situations)...for e.g. plates or beams with heated holes.... or whatever... I need it to validate the thermal stress module of my FEM code. Thanks Abhijit |

Hi Abhijit,
I have recently solved analytically a thermal stress problem in a thin elastic cylindrical shell (sorry, it is axisymmetric, not planar, but you'll be able to modify it if you work it a bit). If you wish, I can mail it to you. Rami |

Hi Rami,
Thanks for your info. It would be great if you can email it to me, provided its not too large... Do you know any web links or books where I can find something. Thanks Abhijit |

Abhijit,
I am away from office, so I won't be able to send it to you for a while. However, I have recently found the same solution in the classical book of S. Timoshenko, "Theory of Plates and Shells", in the chapter "General Theory of Cylindrical Shells", article "Thermal Stresses in Cylindrical Shells". I guess this book (and others of this type) would also provide additional solutions which are useful for your validation. |
