I have difficulty in understanding the panel methods. I would like to add the kinematic and dynamic BCs into a code to make it free surface panel code. I would appreciate it very much if anyone would guide me in finding good documentation on this topic.

Have a look in Low-speed Aerodynamics, 2nd Edition, by Joseph Katz and Allen Plotkin. pp530 pp533 Also it might be useful getting hold of the VSAERO/USAERO code notes as these describe the implementation of free surface methods. Regard James |

Katz and Plotkin is good for general info about panel methods but is a little thin on free surface issues. The AMI free surface code (FSWAVE I think) which is based on VSAERO is also documented in a series of publications by Brian Maskew, at least one of which appears in the SNAME Transactions in the early or mid 90's I believe. An excellent discussion of free surface panel methods is also presented in Volker Bertrams book "Practical Hydrodynamics" (not certain about the whole title, but the first word is "Practical". It's published by Butterworth).
Other useful references, particularly for ship wake problems, are papers by by Dawson, Larrson and Xia, Raven, Rosen, Sclavounous, Nakos, and Kring which appear in places like the ONR Naval Hydrodynamics Symposiums, Journal of Ship Research, etc. Dissertations by Raven (Delft I think), Nakos (MIT), and Kring (MIT) are also helpful. If I were going to recommend one thing I'd probably say get Bertram's book. Good Luck!! |

Thank you very much for both replies. Is there anyway that I can fınd the VSAERO/USAERO code notes? I believe it will be very useful in understandıng the implementation of free surface modifications as stated by James Date.
